What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
1 Corinthians 3:5–7
It is so easy to get overwhelmed with strategy and plans for ministry but Paul tells us to keep it simple. We can get bogged down and get discouraged with a lot of ministry activity but we need to remember that it all boils down to planting and watering.
When we forget that our job in the Body of Christ is to plant and water then we become frustrated. Whether someone grows through our ministry or whether he or she takes only one small step of faith is God’s responsibility. My invitation from God to be a part of his plan centers on my willingness to be involved in planting and watering, those are my boundaries, I can cultivate and nurture but I cannot force anything to grow.
I need to keep my focus on my mission and keep on planting and watering and remember that the rest is up to God.
