Training local community leaders is a fundamental task for Amazon Vida. We know that the gospel and the transforming power of Jesus will reach distant places in the Amazon more effectively through indigenous leaders.
Our local leaders know the region well and are able to contextualize and communicate the gospel to the people so much better. They already live here, they speak the language and they know the culture and traditions of the area they serve.
Madielson and Elinalva Alfaia are a young missionary couple that has been serving on the river regularly. As a teenager, Madielson accompanied his father on missionary trips to riverside communities. At the age of 15, he was already a student at the Leaders Training Center and today, married and with two daughters, he continues the missionary work started by his father, who died in 2019.
Every two weeks, Madielson and Elinalva go on a boat trip on the Mamuru River and visit five small churches. It is a strategic supervision trip to strengthen churches, provide biblical supplies and materials, and encourage the local leadership.
They also participate in other missionary trips working with short term mission teams and weekly trips to the Maranhão community, to work with Pastor Abimael Sicsú.
Your donation allows them to be trained and many other future leaders as well at the Leaders Training Center in association with First Baptist Church of Parintins and sponsored by Amazon Vida.
This partnership supports experienced leaders who have been in the field for years and invests in training a new generation of leaders.
